Tamhida Ahmed’s research interests include understanding governmentality and power structures for Earth System governance, exploring different ecosystem services, gender biases, poverty and equity within the complex social-ecological system, as well as studying the role of experiential simulation to drive community-based ecological movements.
Ahmed follows the Master's programme at SRC to deepen her understanding of complex social-ecological systems. She hopes to gain the right tools and knowledge to bridge the gap between her own field and the natural sciences, as well as between science, policy and practice in general. Currently, she is the student representative for the first year master's students at the centre.
Ahmed strongly believes that to address climate change and attain SDG’s we must mitigate socio-economic inequities, which means there needs to be more collaborative work between industry (private sector, government, civil society) and academia.
Ahmed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with dual major in Marketing and Human Resource Management and a Master’s degree in International Business.
She is an educator by profession and previous to her studies at SRC she was teaching international relations and global policy, business communication and management at Primeasia University in Bangladesh. She is also anadvisory board member at Global Chamber Dhaka where she is heading a CSR Program on training different tribal communities, including farmers on the importance of using mobile technology for their day-to-day agricultural work and connecting them to different public/private agro-based companies. She is also a social worker by passion, and works for the NGO namely Moyurponkhi shishu-kisshor somajkollan songstha (Moyurponkhi child-teen social service organization). Her work entails to provide equal access to affordable education to the underprivileged children in the society including the indigenous children to eliminate gender and wealth disparities. In the year 2020, on full scholarship, Ahmed got selected in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) as a Science and Tech delegate to represent her work on Simulation and SDG: a pathway for transformative futures.
